Position Descriptions

The department is seeking three individuals to fill tenure-track positions at the assistant professor level.

Multimedia Design - The department seeks an individual to teach and conduct research on the social, cultural, and technological aspects of new media and communication. The successful applicant will be expected to teach primarily applied courses at the undergraduate level. Technical skills such as web design, multimedia design, internet audio and video, and project management are desirable. Knowledge of Adobe products such as Dreamweaver, Photoshop, InDesign, and video editing software such as Apple Final Cut Pro Studio or Avid is desirable.

Broadcast Production - The successful candidate will teach in the area of video production, media management and media industry studies. Knowledge and experience working with Avid, Apple Final Cut Pro Studio, Adobe After Effects, Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe Audition desirable. Professional and teaching experience preferred.

Basic Course Director - The department seeks an individual to direct the basic public speaking course and to teach and conduct research in his or her area of interest. The successful candidate will be expected to teach in one or more of the areas of the department and have the ability to teach in the departmental core. Experience in working a large multi-section public speaking course is essential.

All applicants must have the ability to teach one or more classes in the departmental core (research methods, argumentation and critical thinking, communication theory, applied communication, or persuasion). Normal teaching load ranges between 18 and 24 semester hours per academic year. Opportunities for summer employment exist. Academic advising, departmental committee assignments, research/creative activities and professionally related service are expected.

Qualifications

ABD required for appointment Ph.D. required for tenure. Evidence of a clear research agenda and strong teaching are required along with strong interpersonal, collaborative, and organizational skills.

Review of applications will begin October 1, 2009 and continue until the positions are filled.

A complete application will include a letter of application, vita, three current letters of reference, transcripts (official copy required for appointment), evidence of teaching effectiveness, and a sample of scholarly writing. For the broadcasting and multimedia design positions also include a portfolio of work.
